President Obama spent time campaigning in Iowa over the weekend. He visited farmers who were experiencing the worst drought in years. The news report stated that to help farmers experiencing hardship from the drought the government is going to purchase a large amount of product to distribute to food pantries and the like.
Now to me this doesn't seem quite right. Being that there is a drought I would think that that would lead to a shortage of product. Product that consumers purchase at the market rate based on supply. What product there is these farmers will have no trouble selling at a very good price on the open market. Why on earth would president Obama want to purchase an already scarce comodity and give it away? Wouldn't that just cause a greater shortage?
I can't imagine anyone not realizing this. That just leaves me to believe that he wishes to cause an intentional shortage of comodities for those that actually have to pay for them. In other words give it free to his supporters at the expense of everyone else.
