Continue the Discussion from Preference Poll

My presidential preference poll of August 22nd has generated more than 300 comments and as everyone there knows, it's extremely hard to navigate around the comments. So, let's continue the discussion here... it'll be much easier!

Jimmy, I agree Hayworth would have been a big step up, but Jill is right, he didn't stand a chance in Arizona.

True and this still being politics, Palin would have been shooting herself in the foot by going against the guy who chose her as VP and supporting some one who didn't stand a chance anyway.

All I know is, they were tied. After Palin sold out, McCain by 20 points.

You know Rich, she could have said she wasn't going to endorse anyone and then talked about this other guy running... that would have given him a LOT of visibility that he desperately needed. I think he could have won had the media ever mentioned he was running and she could have made that happen.

She put a personal relationship over principle. And I think that's what we're all tired of at this point.

Well, I was here watching the race develop and that polling was skewed - they polled mostly in Grijalva's district for one thing (Tucson) and in liberal-laden Scottsdale (PHX). All of the heavily Republican districts didn't want Hayworth at all. If anything, it should prove to you just how much power Palin has - all she has to do is show up and say a few obligatory words for McCain and he's in. (Thing is, he would have won by a large margin anyway because the poll didn't accurately reflect everyone in the state)

Show me a poltician with a major party who doesn't have to tow the party line once in a while. If you don't do what they want at some point, they'll drop you like a hot rock. It's Reality 101. Even Perry will crumble under pressure (and it won't take much, IMO).

Ah! Nevermind, I got it. It was Jim Deakin. Really stand-up guy. Not like those wackos from Nevada and Delaware.

Yeah, it was Deakin. I remember some of the local TEA Party chapters backing him, but no one really knew his name. They just checked "McCain" because everyone knows his name & that he's a war hero.

I don't know if Palin has that much influence. Like Jill said, McCain is like Strom Thurmond here. All the retirees & ex-military adore him.
I'd be surprised if Palin could have pulled an unknown ahead of McCain's established base.

Rich if Palin had even uttered the guy's name it would have been ALL over the news and everyone would have heard of him. It would have given him instant credibility.

If Palin doesn't run for president, I hope she comes down here and runs for Jon Kyl's soon-to-be-open seat. She'd take the state in a major landslide. Could even run for Governor, since everyone's ticked off at Jan Brewer these days.

In the end, sometimes people just reckon it's better to pick the devil you know than the devil you don't, which is basically what happened with the McCain thing.

Isn't true that this is his last term in office and he won't be running again? At least that is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I am not interested in such. If Palin is going to TALK like she puts principles ahead of party politics, she damn well better WALK THE WALK.

Kyl is not seeking re-election. The smartest thing Palin could do would be to run for that seat. But, of course, liberals will attack her and her family. Hope she doesn't quit again.

If Palin would have supported EITHER candidate instead of McCain, it could very well have been different. But she went with the GOP machine - like she said she'd NEVER do.

Again, name one candidate running RIGHT NOW who has NOT towed the party line. Only one who is even close is Ron Paul.
