I start from the premise that whatever Obama does - it will be wrong. Because you can always assume that with Leftists and you'll always be right!
Obama has made it public that they are going to withdraw support for Mubarak. They've announced publicly that they're going to "review" U.S. aid to Egypt which is the diplomatic say of saying SCREW YOU MUBARAK. They've not uttered one word of support for the Mubarak government all day today.
This is EXACTLY LIKE Jimmy Carter and Iran. Thirty-two years ago in 1979 Jimmy Carter pushed the Shah of Iran out of office because Carter didn't like him. He thought he was a little too dictatorial. Carter had no understanding whatsoever of what it was like to be a secular leader in an Islamic country that had the Islamists banging on the doors of power. Eventually the Shah fell and the evil era known as the "Islamic Republic of Iran" was ushered in.
It's alarming that today the Obama administration is out calling Mubarak an "authoritarian." Yes, he is an authoritarian but the question is, what does he use his authority to do? And in his case it is used mostly to quash the Islamists (terrorists) from taking over the country.
And if Mubarak falls, that's what is most likely to happen. The Islamists will take over in the name of the Muslim Brotherhood and strongly backed by Iran.
Make no mistake - this is all about Israel. Iran's greatest ambition is to
destroy Israel. And what better strategy is there toward that goal than to
replace all Israel-friendly regimes in the Muslim Middle East with regimes
hostile to Israel. That's why Mubarak MUST GO. And watch, this will
spread throughout the Muslim Middle East as Iran strives to replace regimes that
have learned to get along with Israel with ones that will be more likely to
attack and fight Israel. And that's why Obama will go along. Obama
believes Israel must be stopped too. So he will - consciously or
unconsciously - continue to support what Iran wants, even when it goes against
U.S. interests.
That's what's going on in Egypt. And everything I see coming out of the Obama administration is an exact replica of what came out of the Carter administration in 1979.
Yes, Mubarak is an authoritarian. But he's an authoritarian fighting Islamists! Mubarak is also a secular leader. He has faithfully kept the Israeli-Egyptian peace deal that was brokered by his assassinated predecessor, Anwar Sadat. And he's kept to those promises and has lived peacefully with Israel for 30 years. Mubarak has been a staunch fighter against the Islamists/terrorist group the Muslim Brotherhood and he has been a faithful friend to Israel and the U.S. In a country like Egypt, the United States AND the world cannot afford to see Mubarak overthrown with the great likelihood that the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran will take over. We warned Jimmy Carter of this in 1979 - that if he didn't support the Shah (even with all his flaws) something much worse would come. Now it's happening all over again.
If we don't support Mubarak -- even with all his flaws, I can guarantee you (as any conservative could) that something much worse will follow and the world will become a noticeably more dangerous and precarious place!
OMG! Just listening to his speech. He just called for the Egyptian government to RESTRAIN itself. DID HE CALL ON THE IRANIAN GOVERNMENT TO DO THIS!? NO! Then he called for Egypt to restore the internet? Did he ever ask Iran to do that!? NO! He is totally pulling the rug out from the Egyptian leadership.
He says he reprimanded Mubarak during a phone call. HE SHOULD HAVE SUPPORTED HIM! He's calling for "concrete steps to advance the rights of the Egyptian people." In essence HE IS CALLING FOR THE OVERTHROW OF THE EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT! He did not make any of these demands when the Iranian people rose up!
I'm telling you guys - he is DOING THE WRONG THING here. He's throwing Mubarak under the bus and just inviting Iran & the Muslim Brotherhood to take over.
UNBELIEVABLE.

Looks like I was RIGHT! Our government does support this overthrow. Everytime you hear them say that REFORMS MUST BE ACHIEVED in Egypt - that is code for MUBARAK MUST GO!

I tell my son to please NOT go to school and tell people I scream at the t.v. It is a habit I have acquired in the last couple of years and getting worse.People walk around these days talking into Bluetooths and cellphones, and I often think they're talking to themselves. Screaming at the TV isn't that much different. :-)
