Wow, Steve, I sense a deep anger and defensiveness seething from your post that does not in any way promote a Godly spirit! When people result to calling names and trying to bebase another person, their position is seriously compromised. You may not be a Muslim, but from what i have read and the way you have responded, you are not a Christian either! Try to remember, WWJD (What would Jesus do?)

Ya, he was pretty nutty. I've dealt with that type before, the Jesus only bunch....what a bunch of fruits! They remind of me of the 7th day adventist cult people - they believe they are the only "chosen" one and that everybody else but them will be going to hell. It's clear they haven't read the Bible in its entirety and only believe what some whacked out preacher spoonfed them.

Did anyone look at any of those videos he kept pushing? Freakish!
February 20, 2011 12:40:16 AM EST
No, I didn't. I was trying not to engage too much but I was monitoring the conversation...he was an angry and hate filled man. There are soooo many people in our world like this! Thanks Jonathan for keeping our world a safe and respectful place! :-)

Dawn, what does that mean "Jesus only"? Why do you call him that? I don't get it. By the way, I deleted him, but he can still read these posts... so - just thought I'd mention it.

Basically, if I remember right, 'Jesus Name only' and 'oneness' doctrines take acts 2;38 to mean you cannot be baptized 'in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Has to be Jesus name only
February 20, 2011 12:48:08 AM EST
There are people who believe that you worship JESUS ONLY and not the Father and not the Holy Spirit are involved in any way. They get their "theology" from Acts, I believe chapter 2, verse 38, where Peter talks about being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ....and there are a few other scriptures that I can't remember that they use to justify their Jesus only/no triune God philosophy. I have never been able to get them to explain to me how they can gloss over references to being filled with the Holy Spirit and just where God the Father fits into all of their beliefs, particularly in light of the fact the Scripture, both OT and NT talks about both quite frequently.

Ah, I see. Thanks Dawn. That's so perverted. It's amazing how people can form an entire theology based on a single verse. And a mis-reading of the verse at that!
How about John 10:30 where Jesus said, "I and the Father are one." THAT'S PRETTY CLEAR!
February 20, 2011 12:54:53 AM EST
I know! and yet they are just stuck on this Oneness Jesus only philosophy and no matter how many scriptures you show them that shows otherwise, they are "hellbent" on believing the Oneness crap. I truly think they are a cult.

Wow..... I can't believe I missed all the action on here tonight.... geeze.... Glad he's gone!!
February 20, 2011 1:00:54 AM EST
If I am not mistaken The Bible says without the Spirit we are none of His.Guess Deleted member said who he was....none of his.
February 20, 2011 1:05:28 AM EST
Acts 2:4 "All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit"
February 20, 2011 1:05:57 AM EST
Yeah definitely cult-like. It sounds kind of similar to that other cult - Jehovah's witnesses. By the way, that's http://carm.org website is a great site Dawn!
February 20, 2011 1:08:47 AM EST
I think it's a great web site! Lots of good info there on all sorts of different groups, beliefs, and "movements." It's one I use fairly often.
February 20, 2011 1:10:19 AM EST
Wow, I missed all of this until now. I will say that the deleted member is more likely a Muslim that even perverts the group that Dawn linked to. How do I know this? Because I know a LOT of former Muslims who perverted that very teaching to get Christians doubting their faith and to claim that there are contradictions in the Bible.
This becomes very laughable when you realize that the Quran is RIDDLED with contradictions, but it tells you that they are there and to follow the verses that are later and ignore the earlier ones when there is a contradiction.
That becomes even more humorous when you read the Quran and find that all of the PEACEFUL passages that the Muslim apologists who claim Islam is peaceful cite to claim that it is a PEACEFUL RELIGION come from early in the Quran and are ALL later contradicted by evil so vile that it makes Steven King books look like children's entertainment.

Well, you know what I love about it Dawn, is it summarizes everything nice & concisely. If you want to get a quick basic idea about what Jehovah's witnesses are about, most places want to write up a 50-page document on it. And when you just need the bullet points - it's nice to have a site that will give you just that.
Jon, boy you missed a good one tonight!! My reference to Islam for him was that they too are horrified by the idea of the trinity. And they too (the serious believers) will say you're Satanic for believing that. But boy he was so hateful, huh?

It really does summarize things quite nicely. I was a bit surprised to see the site have a reference on Catholicism, however. While I can't say I disagree with some of their points (for the record, I'm NOT Catholic), I was just a bit shocked to see them fit that along with the cults.

I only give people the name of (my teacher/pastor) who I study under and if they want to check him out fine and if not then fine in these type forums (I will and do discuss things privately if asked however). I believe he is one of the few around today who can and does teach the WHOLE bible chapter by chapter verse by verse correctly. Of course that is my belief (after many years of studying and praying) and DOES NOT mean I get to judge others who disagree. I do this instead of getting caught up in endless/pointless debates that never really resolve much. I mean that one guy was gonna put the whole bible in his posts I think. LOL! Anyway I will say Satan's main tool is deception and a little deception can cause a lot of trouble. Oh and one more thing my Christian friends. Remember also that traditions of man make void the word of God. ( :

My pastor, too, teaches verse by verse, chapter by chapter. I got saved in a Calvary Chapel, and that is their method of teaching, verse by verse, chapter by chapter. I no longer attend one because the pastor at the local one (not the pastor I got saved under, however), is...well...let's just say he isn't doing what he should be doing, and should NOT be preaching. I'll leave it at that. My current pastor at my current church ALSO teaches verse by verse, chapter by chapter. I love that method of teaching because you get everything IN ITS CONTEXT and it helps keep the pastor from making scripture say something it isn't really saying, because you have the whole context of the passage.
