Is Facebook Liberal?

  • Yesterday I posted this statement as a suggested "status update" that people could post on their Facebook page to invite their conservative Facebook friends to join FreedomTorch:

Did you know every time you visit Facebook you give the progressives who control it more money to spend on Obama's 2012 campaign!!!??? Join http://FreedomTorch.com/ today and STOP FUNDING OBAMA!

People have asked me if I can substantiate this claim and explain how if they don't spend any money on Facebook, that they're enriching Facebook.  Well yes I can!  I hope you all know me well enough by now to know I never make claims like this that I can't substantiate.

First, there are two parts to this question:  1. is the culture at Facebook predominantly liberal; and 2. Do our visits to Facebook enrich Facebook?  The answers to both questions is yes, and here's why:

HOW LIBERAL IS FACEBOOK - AND WILL SOME MONEY FACEBOOK EARNS GO TO OBAMA AND OTHER LIBERAL CAUSES?

This article (link is below) tells that out of the $65,000 that Facebook employees gave to candidates in 2008 less than $2,000 went to John McCain.  Therefore 97% went to Obama!

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/apr/26/f...acebook-makes-friends-with-attorneys-general

Then Facebook's former PRIVACY CHIEF, Chris Kelly, stepped down from Facebook to run for Attorney General of California this year (thankfully he lost).  But he was one of Facebook's top lawyers, and you can see by checking out his campaign website that he was hugely liberal.

    http://www.kelly2010.com/

If you look at his issues page you'll see many disturbing things. For instance, he says this:

"Discrimination, in any form, at any time, is just plain wrong. Proposition 8 violates equality and fundamental fairness."

So he believes traditional marriage is discriminatory and he believes people who hold the Christian view that marriage is between a man and a woman are "fundamentally unfair". He said he would use the courts to overturn Proposition 8 - which millions of Californians voted for. He wanted to use the courts to overturn the expressed will of the people because he disagrees with them!

And he was one of the top lawyers at FACEBOOK! So taking that into consideration along with the 97% of campaign contributions from Facebook employees going to Obama, it's clear that the culture at Facebook is extremely liberal.

And as any conservative knows, liberals believe in free speech and tolerance until it comes to conservative speech which as illustrated by Chris Kelly's campaign site, and then it's called hate speech.  And "hate speech" of course must be eliminated.
So that answers question #1 - is the culture of Facebook liberal.

Now to question #2 - How Do Our Visits Contribute to Facebook's Wealth, Power and Influence:

Each time you visit Facebook, Facebook earns a small sum of money.  And it's not because you pay them.  It's because advertisers are willing to pay them for your eyeballs.  Advertisers are willing to pay for a chance to get a few seconds of your attention.  They pay Facebook.  But Facebook charges them based on how many times their ad is displayed on the site.  And every time you visit, you increase the number of times each ad is displayed every time you view a Facebook page.

So every time you click into a Facebook web page, you're contributing to Facebook's wealth - even though you yourself never give Facebook a dime.  Multiply this by the millions of conservative Americans who are viewing hundreds of millions of pages on Facebook each week and this climbs into the millions of dollars a month!

With wealth comes political influence and power.  So every time we click on a Facebook page we are in a small way contributing to their political influence!  And I might say - it's kind of like what Neil Armstrong said when he walked on the moon:  "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Each of us contributes only a few cents a day to Facebook's wealth and influence, but when multiplied by the millions of other conservatives that spend much time on Facebook each day, it's a rather large contribution adding up to millions a month.

So yes indeed, every page we view in Facebook puts money into their pockets. Into the pockets of progressives. Progressives who supported Obama by 97% to 3%!  Progressives who believe the expressed will of the people must be overturned by the courts in the name of fairness.  THAT'S Facebook.
