  • This 1921 essay/obituary of Mary White, written by her father, was required reading when I was in school.  It wasn't only for the grammar and writing style, but for the topic as well.  It was a unique look at the life of a young girl so many years ago.  I'm glad I had the chance to re...

The Blitz on London

  • On this Day in 1940 the German began the "Blitz", the all night air raid attacks on London.

The blitz changed the face of the war, as well as how it was viewed here at home. While the U.S. wouldnt get involved for another year, that fears over Britian increased the American chorus who sought to get involved.

I was in London last year and visited the bunker that Churchill and his closest advisors stayed in during the blitz. Its amazing what the people of London had to go through during this time. The non-stop anxiey over immenent bombings that noone was prepared for. The death and destruction was beyond comprehension. It is amazing to think how close Britian was from toppling.
