I am always hearing "Birthers" questioning the President's citizenship. They come up with evidence that his Birth Certificate is a fake... and maybe it is. WHO CARES? All that really proves is he is a liar, and we already KNOW that. Where he was born is irrelevant. But by letting themselves get taken off on the false trail, which is the question of where he was born, they are being distracted from the REAL issue. That issue is WHO are his parents and what was THEIR citizenship?
Obama is a CITIZEN. Get over it! His mother, Anne Dunham, is a citizen, thus he is too! And all that has happened as a result of the White House dropping the fake Birth Certificate on us (and I DO believe it is fake)... is to send many, sensing they were close to the quarry, running even faster down what is already a false trail... and even further from the real path they should be pursueing. It is this allowing of themselves to be distracted from the relevant issue which has me aggravated more than anything.
As I said... HE IS A CITIZEN, and maybe even a NATIVE BORN citizen (meaning only that he was BORN here).... but that does not mean he is legally qualified to be President.
As I already stated (and given the misconceptions about it, I cannot state it enough.. so for the third time) his mother is an American Citizen, of that there is no doubt. This makes him a citizen as well. Then of course, some get distracted by the question of WHERE he was born, whether it was Kenya or Hawaii. This is also a red herring, since this too is not what makes one eligible to be President. So there are TWO false trails that so many Birthers spend their time chasing down.
"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."
The requirement to be President is "Natural Born Citizen". The Constitution refers to citizens in many places, but in only one place does it make a distinction... and that is for Office of President. But Natural Born Citizen does not refer to being born in the U.S.A. or it's territories. It refers to being born of TWO PARENTS WHO ARE BOTH CITIZENS. No less than 5 Supreme Court rulings, since the passage of the 14th Amendment, have upheld that definition of a Natural Born Citizen.
The reason why our Founders made this particular requirement for serving as President is very real. It is why Winston Churchill, whose mother was American and whose father was a citizen of the United Kingdom... the same two nations Obama is citizen of... could never have served as President. By virtue of parents from two countries, he has dual citizenship... and thus dual duties and allegiances. Theoretically, one could end allegiance to one nation be renouncing one's citizenship to that nation, but the person simply making a statement does not mean that happens, for certain, in their heart. In any event that is also irrelevant, since Obama will not even acknowledged his dual citizenship, let alone renounce it. Renouncing citizenship would still be irrelevant, since it would not make him "Natural Born"... but it does not matter, since he has not done so anyway. The only REAL relevance any college transcripts that may show him enrolling as a foreign student has is not in showing he is not a citizen, but instead it proves he is a criminal who defrauded the government.
The danger our Founders saw in a President with dual loyalties could arise in a number of ways. Perhaps he would be inclined to give favorable treatment in treaty negotiations, or some such, to a nation he had personal bonds with over other nations which are more deserving. Perhaps it might influence his behavior to the point of leading the nation into or away from war when the opposite is appropriate.
Since nobody argues at all that Obama's father was 3/4 Arabic, and 1/4 Kenyan... and was in fact a Citizen of the United Kingdom... it follows that both of Obama's parents are NOT Citizens, thus he may be a citizen, but he is not a "Natural Born Citizen"... and thus ineligible to serve as President.
