  • This 1921 essay/obituary of Mary White, written by her father, was required reading when I was in school.  It wasn't only for the grammar and writing style, but for the topic as well.  It was a unique look at the life of a young girl so many years ago.  I'm glad I had the chance to re...

For the past five years we have suffered the broken heart of separation in this country. Friends from friends, neighbors from neighbors…our sons and daughters, husbands and wives…separated from each other by walls of growing distrust and disharmony that appeared out of nowhere. It is ...

Message 1: from General James Mattis, on the matter of professional reading, 20 November 2003 ….The problem with being too busy to read is that you learn by experience (or by your men’s experience), i.e. the hard way. By reading, you learn through others’ experiences, general...

An easy to use, free, encryption program that I use.

  • Want to make sure nobody... NOBODY... ever see's your data?  I really like this program.  And these days, it is looking like such concerns may be more and more important.

This creates a "virtual" hard drive within your hard drive... or flash card, or other storage device. Data is transferred to and from the virtual drive just as you would with any other data... drag and drop. The data is encrypted/decrypted automatically without any further action by the user.

It has many other features, for instance...
Say someone KNOWS you have an encrypted drive on your computer, and thru force or extortion they make you give them a password. You can give them one that opens, what they believe to be your safe data... but is different, unimportant data instead.

One of the things I think is cool is the "virtual drive" or "container", when closed, is a single file. You can have hundreds of files, with directories and all, stored in a single "container". When you open that one container, it asks for the password, and then it gives you access to what is really like a whole storage drive. If you want to send stuff by email, encrypted, all ya do is create the container, drag and drop the files you want encrypted into it, then save. If you wanted to write a simple letter to someone, but email it encrypted using this... you type it with a word processer like Notepad or Write, and save the file... then drop the file into the container.

You can then send all those files in one container as a single file email attachment... and only someone with the password and program will ever see them. (I should mention, if sending it to someone without the program, you should include the program file as an attachment too... but it is just 3.3 mb).

The program is open-source FREE software. No viruses, nags, crippleware, no bullsh*t.  This is NOT a commercial advertisement or anything like that... I use this.  V.Ross
