Just about every conservative has had the unpleasant experience of being called a Nazi or fascist by some zany leftist. They look so satisfied by the insult, while we stand there is doe eyed confusion as if we were just called a moon rat or something. You start to question yourself, do I subconsciously hate Jews? Am I some odd form of National Socialist? Why am I a Nazi? I love America, my grandfather fought the Nazis. And aren’t fascists for abusive big government, how is that me? There must be something I’m missing, you think, some misty part of history or politics I don’t know. After all, that liberal looked very confident in his insult.
Short answer, that liberal is just an idiot. Nazi’s have nothing to do with being conservative. They never have and they never will.
I’ve been looking into the early Nazi movement here in America, pre-WWII. It was lead by people taking orders from Nazi Germany, but they watered down much of the message to appeal to Americans. So while it had a real Nazi core, most of the members were just saps who thought it was just a cool German American heritage organization. Remember, this was before the Nazis did all those terrible things. Very few people really understood what Nazis really were yet.

The real Nazi element often fought with their communist American counterparts, ideologically and literally in street fights and the like. This was a proxy fight, one side representing the Soviet Union, the other representing Germany. This wasn’t a right versus left thing, more Russia versus Germany. And while both these two radical factions were popular in European politics, Nazism never was more than a tiny movement in America. Nazi’s were National Socialists and the American Nazi movement was entirely in large liberal cities in the north, and almost entirely in the German American community. Just as most conservatives today can’t related to the Nazi’s big government socialism, anti-Semitism, and anti-Americanism, it wasn’t a big seller among conservatives back then either. The only thing they had in common with modern conservatives is their family values platform, which was just a mask to get the German American heritage movement into their fold. Nazism or fascism didn’t fit into the American conservative mindset, though the movement did have some support on the American left back then. Which makes sense, Nazism was a natural offshoot of socialism. Friedrich A. Hayek wrote about early Nazi Germany in The Road to Serfdom, "The communists and Nazis clashed more frequently with each other than with other parties simply because they competed for the same type of mind and reserved for each other the hatred of the heretic."
But did this Nazi movement somehow grow into what we now know as the conservative movement? Nope, it had nothing to do with it at all. In fact, the American Nazi movement was pretty much eliminated in America during WWII when they were put into interment camps and discredited into non-existence by the war and holocaust. Their previous German heritage followers were horrified and totally abandoned them. Long after the death of this first Nazi movement, some unrelated nutjobs picked it up in the 60s to become what we know as idiot Neo-Nazis that seem to have little in common with the right or the left. Today they seem to be more of a street gang than anything else.

So why does the left call conservatives fascists and Nazis? I suspect early American communist radicals saw their fascist/Nazi radical rivals behind every tree for long time. Nazis were anyone that was an enemy. Plus it’s just a nice little insult, and “National Socialist” is really what they are, so that doesn’t work. So “Nazi” and “fascist” stuck, more out of habit than anything else. Their liberal progressive dupes then picked it up.
Remember also, McCarthy’s attack on communists in America failed, and they went deep underground and blended into the progressive movement of today. So this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. But of course, the kettle isn’t black. There is no trace of the old fascist/Nazi movement in the modern conservative movement, no matter how hard the left wants it to be there. Radical communists and socialists, however, are everywhere, sprinkled all over the left.
Still not convinced? The American Nazi Party endorsed the Occupy Wall Steet movement saying, "What is really MISSING – is the “MOVEMENT” from these popular protests – its time to pull WN heads out of their collective ass’s, and JOIN IN the attack on Judeo-Capitalism. What do you suggest? That WN Working Class White people DEFEND the Judeo-Capitalists? IF the “movement” wasn’t so PATHETIC it would be OUT THERE – LEADING these protests! The fact that its these “lefties” as you call them, who are picking up the ball and running with it – only shows how much more in tune THEY are with the fed up masses of White Workers, than the fossilized, reactionary “right-wing”. WHO holds the WEALTH and POWER in this country – the JUDEO-CAPITALISTS. WHO is therefore the #1 ENEMY who makes all this filth happen – the JUDEO-CAPITALISTS. WHO therefore do WN need to FIGHT? My heart is right there with these people, perhaps someday the “movement” will SHOW the same COURAGE and DEDICATION that these people OUT THERE FIGHTING are SHOWING!"
