Finding Masculinity In Asatru

  • Years ago, when I was a hard line socialist, I admit that I was a pantywaist that lacked the qualities associated with being a man.  Despite acknowledging the need for a socialist revolution, violence was still abhorred.  Not only that, but also the idea of showing any traits of a man was something I tried to stay clear of because who wants to be associated with traits that lead to male domination of women, domestic violence and the absolute will to be an individual bettering myself.  These qualities were what it meant to be a man or shall I say supposedly, by the standards of the Left, what it meant to be a man. However, those ideas came to crashing halt when I realized the destructive tendencies of this ignorance of masculinity.  There are examples in life that provide the notion and fact that being a man isn't synonymous with domestic abuse and patriarchy.  And with individualism, I realized that this is the basis of all freedoms and that collectivism is evil in its coercion of individuals to submit blindly to its demands.  Still, in my proto-Conservative years I was still lingering on agnosticism and atheism.  However, I was beginning to be interested in religion. None of the Abrahamic religions did it for me.  There were certain things I could not and still don't agree with, but i did see the inherent value of it to people who felt their souls enlightened by it.  I went on to study Wicca which, to my distaste, was more based on the feminine aspect of Divinity rather than espousing both.  Then one day I discovered Asatru, the ancient Nordic paganism, with it's heroes and Gods and a beautiful balance between the masculine and the feminine.  After all, without the feminine there would be no life.  Asatru expects men to be men and not submit their individuality to the whims ofmcollectivists.  One of the main tenets of heathenry is to appreciate your individuality and never sacrifice it for anyone, anything or any ideology.  What's the point to life if you are like everyone else?  What's the point to being faithful in the Gods if you can't have faith in yourself to the point where you don't whore yourself to the highest bidder? Those who got into Valhalla weren't effeminate men who gladly gave away their freedom of individuality.  These were men, actual men, who held true to their beliefs, their ways and their masculinity.  No hero in the sagas showed feminine qualities either and for good reason! Who would cheer on a hero who simply submitted like a wimp to a foe? No one, that's considered weakness.  Who would try to emulate the weak of will back then? Once again, no one.  However, today is a different story where we put on the pedestal those who can't control their urges, cheat on their spouse and indulge mindless drug use.  We allow weak will free pass and say its only natural.  We pay attention to the effeminate males of society and ostracize the masculine as patriarchal Neanderthals.  When it comes to the protection from bodily harm, who would you count on: the weak, subservient man who says lets talk about it or the man with the brawn who is willing to fight?  Answer should be obvious, but our skewed society might answer otherwise. The Left are frightened by those who aren't submissive and have the qualities of a man, because when it comes down to war the masculine win and since socialism and most Leftist ideas are based around feminine attributes, Conservatives would win without a hitch.  This is not to say, though, that socialists wouldn't be underhanded and genocidal.  On the contrary, causing mass death, the cowards way to winning, would be their ace in the hole.  So, to keep from being the Stalinists that they are, they seek to destroy masculinity so that ultimately males will submit willingly to feminist socialism.  Less bloodshed leads the subservient to believe perhaps their masculinity was an unfair advantage and that feminist socialism is the way for the future. Of course, they neglect to realize their individuality and freedom has been totally destroyed in the process. We can all find masculinity within our respective religions and it's through our faith that we will be victorious in a future where it's okay to be a man without being wife beaters and patriarchal numbskulls like the Left believe us to be.

Jonathan Cousar Eric, have you ever thought about what you did when you went about choosing a God? You went God shopping! You went looking for a God who met with your approval! One who suited every aspect of your personality.

In other words, what you really did -...  more
