  • This 1921 essay/obituary of Mary White, written by her father, was required reading when I was in school.  It wasn't only for the grammar and writing style, but for the topic as well.  It was a unique look at the life of a young girl so many years ago.  I'm glad I had the chance to re...

Message 1: from General James Mattis, on the matter of professional reading, 20 November 2003 ….The problem with being too busy to read is that you learn by experience (or by your men’s experience), i.e. the hard way. By reading, you learn through others’ experiences, general...

Enough of This: "G-d" and More of This: "God"

  • When it comes to religious expression in the public space, I'm a nut about it.  I can't see why all religions can't share the public sphere without condemnation from every side.  Perhaps the one thing that irks is the need to censor "God" with G-d.  I see no point in it and it's pretty damn irritating because it smacks of victory for the religiously intolerant due to their faux offense to seeing "god".  Never have I seen any of my Asatru kin censor Thor with "Th-r" or Odin with "Od-n", so why should Christians have to censor their God for the sake of the minority that might find offense to it being read by their eyes?  Gods forbid if people who don't believe in such  to have their eyes and brain process the name!  It might make them consider their own faith and realize that it's on a shaky foundation.  Those true to their convictions whether they are my Asatru kin or atheists should never feel offended by reading "God" within the public space.  Unless there are cross wearing jack boots knocking on our door telling us to convert or die burning on a crucifix for our heresy, I feel no harm in "God" being out there in the public.  I see no harm in a memorial for our fallen veterans that happens to have huge crosses on it.  Those of weak will and weak faith are the ones offended.

To my Christian friends here, wear your cross with pride and never allow the PC police to subjugate you by spelling your gods name with a dash in it.

    Diana Shifley Hi Eric,

Sometimes Jews don't say or write the name of GOD out of respect. Often, on this site, they will call God - G--d. I doubt that He really cares, but it is not about being pc.

Rich Helmold Yes, Eric is misunderstanding the use of G-d. It is not gov't or leftist censorship. It is as Diana says out of respect by some religions.

No doubt Rabbi Nachman can explain. Please do Rabbi.

Jeff L Writing G_d is a somewhat modern Jewish tradition used by many whom love and fear the almighty to write G_d instead of spelling the entire word.

This likely started due to the commandment that we are to never take his name in vain. As I love and fear G_...  more

Jeff L BTW, I support much more religious expression - it is freedom of speech and less freedom of hate from the secular left. Our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and that is something we must be proud of and restore.

Attila Shrugs Now, as for crosses, wear them if you wish, and GOD forbid you remove them to satisfy PC swine. But, just as the true symbol of Israel is not the Star, but the Menorah, the true symbol of Yeshua is the fish, as witnessed in the graffiti of the catacombs....  more
